A. From the case study, of Genie I learned that there is a time for people to learn how to speak, and once you passed that age its even harder to learn how to speak.
B.I feel that its very sad because I don't understand how parents could do that to a 1 year old baby.
C.That there is an age once you passed that age you will must likely not know how to speak very well.
D.I believe that the mother and father should have faced consequences, because the mother was also the one who didnt take care of her. I believe that Genie would be in a home with other people like her, so that she didnt feel alone in the world. I think I would of helped her by, talking to her and helping her to better understand people.
A.from the case study, Genie i learned that if you dont learn how to speak at a certain time in your life that you will never learn how to. It will be harder to learn when you get older.
B.I feel that it's sad knowing that her parents did that to her and that she is paying for it at this stage in her life.
C. That there is only one point of your life at a certain age that you must learn our to speak and if you dont its hard to go back on what you already missed.
D.I would have taken the parents to jail. And i would have placed genie in a home where all the people in the home problems were similar to hers. Also i would have tried to explain to her what happened.
Genie- The Feral Child
A) What did you learn?
That if a child is deprived of communication at a young age that it becomes increasingly harder for the child to learn to speak in adult years.
B) How did you feel, based on what you learned?
Mostly surprised that any human being can just neglect an infant to the point that at the age of 13 they are basically like a baby.
C) What was the biggest revelation, or breakthrough that the scientific community learned because of Genie?
That there might be a window of opportunity to learn language/communication skills and after that it becomes difficult to learn to speak.
D) If you could rewrite the ending of Genie, what would happen (who would face consequences, where would Genie be, how would you help her, etc)
I would have made it so the mother and father both went to prison and have Genie be in a hospital that had therapists help her further improve her communication skills instead of a foster home for her own benefit plus to avoid more abuse by foster parents.
Amanda Parker
A) I learned that all people have a certain age in which they can learn certain things easily. Genie's "window of learning" had closed already by the time they taught her to speak. She could only learn up to the level of a five year old child.
B) I feel that the "window of learning" is closed at a certain age as well. I feel that it is more than socially harmful, but mentally too. Being cut off all that lime from any human contact could have done worse than what it had. I feel that Genie was just a strong willed person.
C) The biggest breakthrough that the scientific community learned because of Genie is not only are some children able to survive under extremely harsh conditions, but there are ways to teach them afterward up to a certain level of education based upon age.
D) I would make sure that Genie had a good home, and got the best of care. I would have continued to try to teach her more than anyone else would have. I would not have ever let her go back with any member of that family due to the harm caused to her. Genie would be with me and i would take her in as if she were my own child.
A.I learned many things about genie such as the fact that she was forced in a cage and attached to a potty. I also learned that she still faces the mentality of a 5 year old. I also learned that if you imposin a child the child will not be able to communicate or act like a normal child.
B.I felt that her parents should go to jail and that how could they do that to their own kid.
C.They learned that once you have been caged up for a while you tend to lose communication skills and your behavior is totally different.
D.If I could rewrite it all I would make sure that her parentrs would go to jail and Genie woyuld end up with a nice family. I would help her by making sure nothin g bad ever happened to her again.
A)I LEARNED NUMEROUS THINGS, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I LEARNED WAS THAT AFTER A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME HUMANS ARE NOT ABLE TO DEVELOP AS MUCH MENTALLY.
B)I FEEL THAT HUMANS SHOULD LEARN ALL THE BASIC INFORMATION THEY NEED, DURING THE TIME PERIOD WHICH IT ITS EASIEST.
C)THEY LEARNED THAT AFTER A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME HUMANS ABILITY TO COMPREHEND INFORMATION LESSENS.
D)I THINK THAT I WOULD NOT CHANGE ANYTHING BECAUSE THE INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM GENIE'S CASE WAS VERY INTERESTING TO ME.
A) What I learned from the case study on Genie is that there is a window in a human being's lifetime where they can learn to speak language the proper way, grammar and everything. Once that window of opportunity is gone it is much more difficult for people to learn language.
B)I felt overwhelmed with grief, and anger towards Genie's parents. I asked myself how could someone be so demented and twisted, and actually be so cruel to their kid!?
C)The biggest breakthrough for the scientific community was learning that there is a certain time where a person can learn language and grammar.
D)If I could rewrite the ending of Genie I would probably not do anything to it except say that she found a nice home where she was treated the right way.
A. What I have learned form the case of Genie is that, after a while you can't learn as much as you could of when you were younger. Also the abuse she went through had an effect on this as well.
B.Basied on what I have learned i feel hurt that somebody had the odasity to come up with something cruel like that.
C.What the scientific revelation learned from Genie is that you can teach something to somebody but you can't do all of it. For example, once something is damaged you can't put it back together like it was before.
D.If I could rewrite the ending of Genie, she would have finished learing the whole entire lanuage and try to be the way she was before it all started. Her parents would have gone to therapy and locked away forever. Her siblings would have gone through therapy as well to, make sure they don't get it throught their heads that something like that is a right thing to do.
A)I learned that if a person is left isolated long enough then he or she will find it very hard to communicate with others.
B)I feel that no one should go through what what she had went through and its very sad because so many innocent children have to suffer for others emotions.
C)Scientis believe that there is a window where a child learns how to speak in given a certain time period
D) I would change her mother's love for her so she would have been better protected by her crazy father.
A.I leraned about a child that was abused all her childhood, and totally isolated from everyone including her family. Not knowing how to speak nor did she know how to use the bathroom on her own the child known as Genie was, even after tons of teaching, not able to comprehend.
B. The study its self left me in shock, i couldn't beleive that some one would do that to their child in such a way. It was also interesting to know that after a certin age it is harder to learn how to speak if you didn't get it at the age requirement.
C. The fact that the window for learning is very easy to miss, and if not caught at the right time, its even more difficult trying to learn thereon after.
D. If i was able to change the ending of Genie, she wouldn't be in costody of her mom, and she still would be under the study of scientist. The way i would help her is by continuing to try to teach her to speak.
A.) I learned that some skills and behaviors can only be learned at certain points in a humans life.
B.) I felt that she had some really unfit parents. I think they were mentally unstable and they shouldn't have been able to keep Genie under their supervision.
C.) Basically, they learned that if someone doesn't learn how to talk then they can only learn so much until they just plateau.
D.) If I could rewrite the ending, Genie would have been placed in a home where people would love and care for Genie.
a) i learned that if langauge is not learned by a certain age, it is almost certain that the person will not fully understand or grasp the language and grammar
b) i was astonished by the cruelty this child had to endure. it made me sick to my stomach to know people would do such a thing
c)the biggest revelation was the discovery that language must be learned by a certain age
d)if i could rewrite the ending genie would be in the home of a specialist and the parents would be charged.
A.) I learned that if a child is not exposed to the skill of language or the some type of speech, his or her window is closed.
B.) I felt that not only was it wrong for Genie's parents to do that but I also felt bad for her, not being able to express herself, being held back from the world.
C.) The biggest revelation, or breakthrough that the scientific community learned because of Genie was mainly that if a child doesn't learn when its the right time in their life its pretty difficult to catch up in the development process
D.) If i could rewrite the ending of Genie she would of learned everything she needed too.... the consequences would be face by her father..... Genie would be with her mom in a happy little town where no one can mess with her...... I would try to help her with the language skills and with the process of getting along with people.....
Elizabeth Easterling:
A) I learned that there is a window of time in which one can easly learn language and beond that window of time learning is slow and difficult.
B)
C)The biggest breakthrough made because of genie is simply that language can only be learned easly at a certan age and if one does not use these comunication skills they lose them
D)If I could rewrite the end of Genie I would have her father sent to jail for life and see how he likes it in a cage I would not have given Genie to her mother I would have put her in a nice home with a nice family and had the scientists pay for any education she might want.
:)
Genie-The Feral Child
A) Throughout this phenomenon about Genie i learned alot especially about the imporrtance of learning at an early age. A child hood is simply something you dont get back.
B) When you don't take the advantage of oppurtunites presented in front of you the window may close as the time passes. The chance may never be present again
C) Genie was unable to speak and understand language and because she was isolated from it for so long it became harder to redevelop. Her ability to redevelop became limited because she was not taught the grammar for early. Her development became slow and rigourous. By the time she was 24 she developed the vocabulary of a five year old.
D) If i could rewrite the ending when Genie was found her father should have went to jail. And to help Genie would have the best work with her to have her realize she is a person and that her life was not in vain because it helped many ohers.
Genie - The Feral Child
A)I learned that there was a little girl named genie that grew up isolated from other people so she didn't know how to communicate.
B)Based on what i learned i felt curious because i had no idea that something like that could happen.
C)One of the things the scientific community learned because of Genie was that the window of opportunity to learn a language gets smaller as people ngrow older and that everything should be learned at a certain age.
D)If i could write an ending to Genie, I would make the parents suffer the consequences and maybe she could be living with other relatives and helping other children with the same problems in an research facility.
A) In the Genie case study, I learned that when it comes to the human body, there is a time period when everything is set to go off and on. Because of this study, we learned children deprived of certain things at a young age, would cause them difficulty in learning as a teen.
B) I felt bad for Genie because her parents put her through something like this. And I don't think any child has to go through something like that, no matter what the circumstances are.
C) I think they learned that there is a point in life when we must learn to do certain tasks. Like in Genie's case we must learn to talk when we're young because that's when that certain part of the brain is open for us to learn to speak.
D) I would put her parents in jail and I would speed up her learning process. And put her with a family that fell in love with her the very moment they heard her story.
A. What did you learn?
I learned that if one is not taught at the correct age window then it would be more challenging at a much older age.
B. How did you feel, based on what you learned?
I feel that there was no reason for one to be tormented in the beginning of life. I don't think her parents wanted to keep her or get rid of her. It kind of felt like she was used as a "lab rat".
C. What was the biggest revelation, or breakthrough that the scientific communtiy learned because of Genie?
That there are windows of learning and that brain disorders from such abuse can take time to repair.
D. If you could rewrite the ending of Genie, what would happen (who would face consequences, where would Genie be, how would you help her, etc)
The parents would go to jail. Then Genie would be treated and live with a phychiatric specialist instead of foster home. She wouldn't get anywhere with a foster home.
A.I learned that when you reach a certain age your ability to learn or comprehend becomes impossible. When a child is born parents needs to teach everything they can before its too late.
B.When i heard about the case of genie it seemed impossible. How could parents do a child that way. Genie suffered severly and im am glad to be living my wonderful life.
C.The scientific community learned that when you reach a certain age your ability to learn become very rare. They also learned that harsh treatment plays a major role on the brain psychologically.
D.If it was up to me Genie's parents would get persecuted. Treating some one in that manner has no excuse. Which means i would not take things lightly on them. Custody og genie will be tooken from them and granted to someone else. I would continue to study and help genie because nothing is impossible.
A) What did you learn?
That Genie was comletly Isolated from human contact, she was Placed on a "potty" and was not talked to by both her Parents and fellow siblings. thus resulting in in a lack of/No verbal skills or form of communication. after a series of test were ran scientist raised the Question: "Is there in time in our life when we can Learn communication skills" and if this window closes "can we learn them later on in life?"
B) How did you feel, based on what you learned?
I was Shocked that People can actually do this to another human being. I felt bad for genie.
C) What was the biggest revelation, or breakthrough that the scientific community learned because of Genie?
That there is time in everyone's life when they life when they learn different things such as: reading, throwing a baseball or in genie's communication. and if u miss that learning curb....oh well
D) If you could rewrite the ending of Genie, what would happen (who would face consequences, where would Genie be, how would you help her? etc)
I would have both the parents sitting in jail righ now for chlid Abuse/Endangerment and Neglect for what they did and I would have genie going to school or have a personal tutor helping her.
It is obvious that I am working with Hallandale's finest students. I am among intellects, very insightful comments!
A)What did you learn?
-From this study case, I understood the difficulties a child can undergo through the growing stages if they do not get the basic teachings of language skills.B)How did you feel, based on what you learned?
-I didn't understand how a parents could be so cruel to a child especially from infancy. Its just a disapointing case of child abuse.C)What was the biggest revelation, or breakthrough that the scientific community learned because of Genie?
-Because of Genie, scientists were able to discover that even after teachings were avaliable to her, after so long she still only had the mentality of a five year old. She could no longer learn any further teachings of language.D)If you could rewrite the ending of Genie, what would happen (who would face consquences, where would Genie be, how would you help her, etc)
-I would ensure that Genie got the proper care she deserved, as far as her parents, they would be facing the consequences of their actions and live in the regret of their abuse towards Genie.
P.S: Mr. Jones I kept trying to post this comment over and over but it never worked there was something wrong with the comment whenever i tried posting it
