1. If I were to diagnose Melvin with a disorder, I would diagnose him with a mood disorder (bipolar, OCD), not a specific one, he seems to exhibit more than one. I believe that he may be redirecting his feelings of anger, sadness, or resentment using displacement.

2. The evidence I have to confirm is the way he is always being mean to everyone around him. He is angry at someone or something else and that's why he is rude, vindictive and mean toward everyone. For example, he puts his neighbors dog in the basement through the garbage chute and tells him off for knocking on his door.

3. Melvin has many character traits that creates more problems for him and his condition. For instance, his sarcasm toward people, his staying inside his home alone all the time, and his rudeness. He becomes easily irritated by seeing, hearing, or talking to people and being bothered at home.

4. I would help Melvin live a better quality of life by doing something that would make him happy or something he would enjoy. I would help him become a better person by teaching him to be nice, polite, and respectful to others around him and their feelings.

5. Melvin eventually gets better by learning to care. He has to take in his neighbor's dog, which teaches him to care and become aware of the needs and emotions of something else. He plays the piano for the dog, Verdell, reads with him (writing his book), and buys food from the restaurant for him. He also starts to care for the waitress that works at the restaurant, learning that her son is sick and she must spend all her time watching him. He finds out that he's sick and must live the rest of his life to the fullest.

6. This movie was really good and sad at certain points (when Verdell must leave Melvin and go home). But all in all, the most sad was when Melvin found out that he is sick.

1) if i was going to diagnose Melvin with a disorder it would be OCD, maybe depression because of lack of love, anger issues and social problems... Im not sure what to call those.

2)OCD- He doesn't step on cracks he flashes lights a certain amount of times... Depression-He writes romance stories and seems sad, he gets angry easily and he's very racist and rude.

3)Yes, he's very racist and rude and that doesn't help the fact that he's got social issues.

4)I would show him the better things in life and teach him that there are better ways to deal with people and help him control his anger.I would also listen to him and help him with what ever issues he hasn't been able to deal with.

5)First he starts to actually take the care of the dog and that leads him to actually start somewhat being kind to Karol. Then when he finds out the dog is about to go back home he starts to cry, which shows he actually cares now. Then he helps Karol with her son's sickness.

1. Obviously Melvin has some type of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

2. He counts the things he does, stocks his cabinets, and doesn'tstep on cracks.

3. He uses displacement as a defense mechanism, or he's just a generallymean and bold guy.

4. He should not be so full of himself and be so self centered. Learn to go off the beaten path once in a while and take risks.

5. He gets better by taking care of his neighbor's dog. He learns to care for something other than himself and makeshimself a new friend. He attempts to continue to go to his psychologist. He helps Carol by getting connections for her home doctor. He attempts to make his neighbor feel better.

1) If you were going to diagnose Melvin with a disorder(s), what disorder(s) would you diagnose him with?

I would diagnose him with Antisocial personality disorder (APD) and sociphobia for the fact that he seems to dislike most of the people in society.

2) What evidence do you have to confirm this diagnosis, based on the movie?

When he went to the restaurant and was making racial slurs about the couple assuming they were jewish and hoping that he would leave. As well as only having the one waitress Carol be his waitress overtime he goes to that restaurant maybe that's shows a fear of interacting with someone new.

3) Does Melvin have any character traits that creates more problems for him, or his condition?

The fact that he is rude and inconsiderate of people’s feelings and situations make it harder for people to help him.

4) How would you help Melvin live a better quality of life, how can he become a better person?

First to be a bit for public about his OCD so people could better understand him and help him when he is having a bad day. Next to be more friendly that way people would be such a problem to him that would mean less confrontations and less hatred.

5) How does Melvin eventually get better? Do you think this is accurate, why or why not?

I do believe he does by the fact that Carol isn't his waitress that changes the rituals of his everyday life and then he wants to go back to that but in turn he changes by being nice and more social.

Melvin is probably bitter by the fact that before in his life he was hurt by love and now takes it out on people.

1) If you were going to diagnose Melvin with a disorder(s), what disorder(s) would you diagnose him with? I would diagnose Melvin wtih OCD.

2) What evidence do you have to confirm this diagnosis, based on the movie? Melvin always seems paranoid, he brings plastic silver ware to the restaurant, when he blew up on the lady in the restaurant.

3) Does Melvin have any character traits that creates more problems for him, or his condition? Yes Melvin is extremely rude, he consistently makes harsh remarks, constantly aggravates people, loud voice, wierd at times, unfocused and crazy.

4) How would you help Melvin live a better quality of life, how can he become a better person? I would help Melvin by getting him the help he needs. He need to see a therapists on a daily basis. He need to change his attiude about life, the way he talk to people and the harsh cold hearted things he do.

5) How does Melvin eventually get better? Do you think this is accurate, why or why not? Melvin begins to care about other people. He begin to become friends with one man and he even goes out on a date with carol the waitress. He also develops a bond with simon and his dog.

1. I believe Melvin has OCD.
2. I have noticed that he is obsessed with little things like not stepping on cracks on the sidewalk. He also checks the lights and locks in his house 5 times each and, he uses his own plastic knife, spoon, and fork. He also sits in the same seat at the restaurant every time he visits.
3. One of the traits he has that makes having his disorder harder for him is that he never takes responsibility for his own actions. And he also hides his true emotion behind sarcastic remarks and rude behavior.
4. Well I would urge Melvin to buy a pet that he can spend time with. And I would also ask him to try and express his feelings to people. To tell them when he feels

1. I would diagnose Melvin with Obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, racist (post truamatic stress), homophobia.

2. Evidence would be when melvin was washing his hands and close the door. Also, he when he was yelling and being afraid of the black guy, and also the gay guy. Also, when he yelled at those jewish people, and when he talked badly about the waitresses son going to die.

3 His rudeness causes people not to like him and hurt people's feelings. Also, his sudden out burst cause people not to be nice to him. Doesn't like jewish people.

4. I think I would help him by letting him keep the dog that he likes, or maybe getting a new dog. And by helping him adjusts and not be rude to other people around him. And by slowly changing things around him so he can get use to different things. maybe even help him find love.

5. He meets a friend, which is a dog that he likes a lot. And he likes this waitress lady who he paid her son’s medical bills for. And he starts being nice to people. He also says to the waitress you make me want to be a better man, he starts taking pills as well. And she kisses him.

6. This movie is really good and it shows a good example of disorders. And also how one person can change. and how one person can make a diffrence in

1.) If you were going to diagnose Melvin with a disorder(s), what disorder(s) would you diagnose him with?
-I would diagnose Melvin with obsessive compulsive disorder but also a personality disorder because he can’t seem to communicate well with others and has a problem controlling his aggression.

2.) What evidence do you have to confirm this diagnosis, based on the movie?
-From the movie I can conclude this diagnosis because Melvin seems to have to do things more than once to make sure they’re done efficiently and the way he wants them to be done, this is a sign of OCD. He doesn’t like interuptions or being bothered and shows extreme aggression towards others. He’s also says things in an insulting way making racist or sexual comments.

3.) Does Melvin have any character traits that creates more problems for him, or his condition?
-Melvin is not exactly friendly with others and that doesn’t help him when it comes to bettering himself. Other people are repelled by his attitude and find him crazy and obnoxious.

4.) How would you help Melvin live a better quality of life, how can he become a better person?
-I would help Melvin get some treatment and possibly learn how to control his aggression and live with others. I would also get Melvin a friend a person or an animal that could get him in touch with other people, this would probably get him comfortable enough to socialize without anger.

5.) How does Melvin eventually get better? Do you think this is accurate, why or why not?
-He begins to enjoy the company of a dog that he was temporarily taking care of for a neighbor who was in the hospital. He also finds a friend in his waitress, Karol and finds the desire to help her through her problems and get her back at her job.
She brings out a nice side of him, and makes him want to be better. She forces out his friendly side, surprisingly it actually helps him because he is able to confess to her about his disorder.
He learns to help others and not only have them help him.

1. i would diagnose Melvin with a bipolar disorder, OCD.

2. He has bipolar disorder because he is he has mood swings, where his mood goes from angry to nice and from sad to happy do to little changes. He has OCD because when he walks in the streets he does not step on the cracks on the ground, he does not wash his hands with used sop, he wears gloves when he touches food or anything else.

3. his character trait that cause him problems are that his has a hard exterior and soft interior. with other people he acts tought and mean to show that he is not to be pushed around. while when he gets the dog he acts sweet and kind.

4. i believe that Melvin's life could be better if he had someone to love. because when he had the dog with him it brought out some good, also when he tries to help the Carol out he also feels better. love along with therapy Melvin's life can be improved. therapy would greatly help with his OCD and his anger issues.

5. Melvin started to get better because he started taking the pills that he was spouse to take, but he never did because he hated them. Carol made him want to become a better man so he started to take the pills. i believe this is accurate because love drove him to better himself and he did it by taking the pills. and it slowly started to take effect.

6. thanks for the great year, mr. jones ^_^

1)If I were to diagnose Melvin I would diagnose him with OCD and mania.

2)Evidence that shows that he has OCD is how he deosn't walk on cracks, and how when he goes to the diner the way he puts his knives and forks. He shows symptoms of mania like lashing out at people, being irritable, and picking fights.

3) Melvin's character traits do create more problems because he can be extremely insensitive, and irritable. Having these traits makes it difficult to socialize with people.

4) To help him have a better life I have him find ways to release his anger, like through those therapedic balls. I know it will be incredibly difficult, but I would find a way have him talk about his upbringing.I would then analyze it and find the reason for his behavior.

5) Melvin eventually gets better by helping out people around him like the waitress and the homosexual man. That and his willingness to get better. He also got better from the pills. In a way it is accurate, because it really depends on the person, and there willingness to get better.

THIS IS CHARMAE SMITH'S WORK!!!!

1.One of the disorders I would diagnose him with is OCD.

2.I would diagnose him with OCD because when he opened the door to his house he had to turn the lock numerous times before feeling secure and then he flicked the light switched lots of times. Also when peole attempted to touch him he would move over and the two most valid pieces of evidence are the way he avoids stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk and the fact that he carries around a plastic knife, spoon, and fork in a ziplock bag.

3.Melvins arrogant and obnoxious ways creates more of a problem for him because the way he treats people makes them dislike him.

4.I think Melvin can become a better person if he treats others with respect, and stop dragging people to their all time low so he can feel better about hiself. But to help melvin live a better life I would get him a companion and he would have no other option but to show affection for his peers.

5.I think Melvin eventually gets better because he starts to let his guard down to the people he gets closer to.Also when he tells carol that she makes him want to be a better man is concrete evidence that he is getting better. Yes I think this is very accurate because at first he is in a sense ruthless but as time went on he started to show emotions towards other people.

1. If i could diagnosis melvin i would say he has OCD, bipolar,DID, and EDA.

2. For OCD he is a clean freak and steps over the cracks when he walks in the streets. Also he is obsessed with Carol and will not leave her alone. Before he puts his bed slippers on he taps the floor twice then the slipper. For DID or bipolar he either is nice and then mean and he changes a lot. You see different sides of him he is not one person. For EDA he is really angry most of the time.

3. Melvin has character traits that causes more problem. He tells people how to act and likes to be in control all of the time. He is rude and obnoxious. He losses control and over reacts.

4. He could be a better person by getting therapy and if he gets people to be with him and helping him most of the time everything would be fine. He needs to change his enviornment and find somebody who could love him back just the same he would love.

5. I believe he will not be healed all the way with out real help form the shrink and time heals everything. There were times that people start appresiating the things he does for them. Carol writs him a thank you note and the guy says thank you for the soup, dog watching, and the trip. Carol makes him WANT to be a better person.

6. This movie was really good and i got to understand the views of everything and the disorders.

JAVONA'S WORK
1.if I were to diagnose Melvin I would say he has OCD.
2.he doesn't like to be touched he wont walk on any cracks on the ground he washes his hands only with hot water and wont use the same soap twice.
3.yes, he doesn't like black people or gay people so he wont let them come any close to him either.
4.i would put him in an environment were he has no choice but to feel sorry and care and there for he would be forced to do things he’s not use to.
5.he gets better once he realizes he likes carol and has feelings for someone that isn’t himself. I think it is accurate because after she keeps turning him down because of his ways he still tries his hardest to get her.
6.i think the experience of getting to know some one with problems or people with problems other than his makes him realize he needs someone other than himself. It makes him change his ways and his habits because he’s to busy thinking about other things
